Stakes races at Laurel

Head to Maryland’s Laurel Park and enjoy 5 Virginia-bred stakes worth $60,000 each. The Punch Line, Bert Allen, Brookemeade, Oakley and Jamestown Stakes will all be contested on the same program. In 2015, field size for the quintet ranged from between 9 – 12 horses in each and three of the races were decided by one length or less. Three graded stakes will also be part of the card — the $200,000 Commonwealth Derby (Gr. II), the  $200,000 Colonial Turf Cup (Gr.II) and Commonwealth Oaks (Gr. III). These were formerly run as the Virginia Derby & Virginia Oaks at Colonial Downs.

We encourage Virginia horse racing fans to make the short trek to Laurel Park for a great afternoon and to see all the upgrades that have been made to Laurel.

We’ll post more information here in the coming days!
