A Trio of Million Dollar Derby Preps Are Slated This Saturday — Virginia-Bred American Dubai Will Compete In The Blue Grass Stakes

Virginia-bred American Dubai will compete in one of three Grade I, $1,000,000 Derby prep races on tap this Saturday, April 9th, which is the biggest thoroughbred race day since last fall’s Breeders’ Cup.

The 3 year old son of E Dubai, bred by Mrs. C. Oliver Iselin, III, will be part of packed 14 horse field in the $1,000,000 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland. The Rodney Richards trainee is 20-1 early, but returns to the state where he scored a maiden special weight triumph last November — at Churchhill Downs. He made three starts at Oaklawn this year and in his best effort, took third in the Grade 3 Southwest Stakes February 15th. American Dubai is out of the Bates Motel mare, Smash Review.

Keeneland will offer four graded stakes as part of Saturday’s card as well. Santa Anita plays host to the $1,000,000 Santa Anita Derby along with five other stakes, and Aqueduct completes the Derby prep trio with their $1,000,000 Wood Memorial, and four additional graded stakes.

Virginia residents can bet all the action via any of these three licensed on line wagering companies: TVG, XPressBet and TwinSpires. Open an account, fund that account then play the ponies on racing’s biggest day so far!
