Trio of Virginia-Bred Stakes Are Slated for June 25 At Pimlico

On June 25th, Virginia-bred horses will have a chance to compete in a slate of separate stakes and maiden races at Pimlico Racecourse in Baltimore.

This “Mid Atlantic Day” program includes five Virginia-bred only events on turf — a trio of new $60,000 stakes and a pair of maiden turf sprints. Stakes names/conditions are the Edward Evans (males 3 & up, 1 1/16th miles), Nellie Cox (shown here – females 3 & up, 1 1/16th miles) and the White Oak Farm (5 furlongs). The $30,000 maiden races will also be contested at 5 furlongs with one for males and one for females, both ages 3 & up.

A series of five $60,000 Virginia-bred stakes will take place at Laurel Racecourse on September 24th. The Bert Allen, Oakley, Jamestown, Brookemeade and Punch Line will be contested at the Maryland oval for the third straight year. In 2017, the stakes are expected to shift to Morven Park in Leesburg.
