Virginia Connected Horses Set To Compete In A Pair Of Grade I Stakes On Saratoga’s Travers Day Card

Virginia raised Sadlers Joy will compete in Saturday’s (August 26th) $1 Million Sword Dancer Stakes as part of the powerhouse Travers Day Card.

The 4 year old son of Kitten’s Joy has had quite a year so far. In five starts, he has a win, runner-up and a trio of third place finishes, good for $322,480. During the 2016 Saratoga meet, Sadlers Joy captured a  maiden special weight race. His only stakes win to date was the Grade 2 Pan American at Gulfstream this past April. The Kentucky-bred, who was raised at Rene & Lauren Woolcott’s Woodslane Farm in The Plains, is 5-1 early. The Sword Dancer is 10th race on the card and will go to post at 4:49 PM.

Drefong, co-bred by Virginian Anthony Warrender, will also compete at Saratoga Saturday.

The 4 year old Gio Ponti colt is favored in the $600,000 Forego Stakes (Gr. I), slated as Race 9 on the card. The Bob Baffert trainee won the Grade I King’s Bishop at “The Spa” last summer and in November, captured the Grade I Breeders’ Cup Sprint. In seven career outings, Drefong has five victories that translate to $1.2 million in earnings. He is out of the Ghostzapper mare, Eltimass.
