Virginia Equine Alliance Now Hiring At Collinsville, Virginia Off Track Betting Center

The Virginia Equine Alliance’s (VEA) newest Off Track Betting (OTB) Center will open in several weeks, and employment applications are now being accepted. The OTB will be located inside the “Dutch” Inn hotel in Collinsville, which is just outside the City of Martinsville.

Bet Takers and Wagering Coordinators positions, in both full and part time capacities, are available. Hourly rate for Bet Takers ranges from $12-$15 per hour and between $15-$18 per hour for Wagering Coordinators.  Training will be provided.

Renovations to the second floor’ “Flying Dutchman” lounge are currently underway. Once complete, the 3400 square foot facility will be known as “The Windmill Off Track Betting and Sports Grill”.  It will feature 47 televisions, and a blend of live horse races from tracks around the country along with sports programming will be shown seven days and evenings per week. Up to 20 tracks will be simulcast daily. A combination of ten betting terminals will be available for fans to wager the horse racing action — 7 will be self bet machines and the other 3 can be utilized as either a manned or self bet terminal.

OTB BET TAKER/TELLER – DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Report to work in a timely manner on all scheduled days
  • Maintain a professional appearance including; a neat personal appearance, wearing of approved VEA attire and uniform, wearing the Virginia Racing Commission license on a black lanyard issued by the VEA
  • Maintain a positive attitude and provide patrons with outstanding customer service, a positive attitude and fast, friendly service
  • Perform wagering transactions with efficiency and accuracy
  • Assume responsibility for all monies assigned
  • Maintain accurate accountability of cash drawer
  • Assure accuracy of all cash draws made
  • Collaborate with mutual coordinator to ensure the accuracy of both beginning and ending cash drawer balance
  • Maintain a neat, clean work space that is free of distractions for you and patrons
  • Comply with all laws, policies and procedures as set forth by the Virginia Racing Commission and the Virginia Equine Alliance

 

WAGERING/MUTUEL COORDINATOR  – DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 

The “Mutuel Coordinator” oversees the daily operations of the OTB and maintains a competent, reliable operations staff. 

  • Assure that all staff reports to work when scheduled
  • Perform disciplinary actions based on procedures outlined in the Employee Handbook
  • Monitor employee check-in times, professional appearance, customer service, accuracy, attitude, etc.

Maintain all office and service equipment

  • Routine cleaning and maintenance of equipment

Cash Management – Fiscal responsibility for cash bankroll and daily cash deposits

  • Maintain proper inventory of currency/coin

Accounting

  • Completion of Daily Balance Report
  • Updating Monthly Teller Shortage Reports
  • Store daily paperwork, as directed by the CFO and Director of Operations

Operations

  • Update Daily Operations Logs
  • Complete tasks on Operations Checklist and initial when completed; maintain for review by OTB Manager
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with the host restaurant
  • Post updated advertising flyers
  • Work with the public relations director to coordinate promotions/special race days
  • Oversee and update the data displayed on the “Information Channel”
  • Resolve customer service issues
  • Maintain a clean, organized working area including removal of trash from counters throughout the day and removal of all trash prior to the opening of the daily opening of the OTB
