A slate of 2023 National Steeplechase Association (NSA) sanctioned jump meets and spring Point-to-Point (PTP) events was unveiled in early December. The season kicks off March 4 with the Rappahannock Hunt Point-to-Point at the Hill in Boston and extends through November 4 when the Montpelier Hunt Races take place at James Madison’s Montpelier. In all, there are seven Point-to-Points and seven sanctioned steeplechase meets on the calendar.
The spring PTP season continues at the Airlie Race Course March 18 with the Warrenton Hunt Point-to-Point, followed by others at the Salem Course in Upperville March 25 (Piedmont Fox Hounds), the Ben Venue Farm in Ben Venue April 8 (Old Dominion Hounds), the Woodley Farm in Berryville April 16 (Blue Ridge Hunt), Morven Park in Leesburg April 23 (Loudoun Hunt) and Glenwood Park in Middleburg April 30 (Middleburg Hunt). The Virginia Equine Alliance will again offer a Starter Reward bonus initiative for any Virginia-owned or Virginia-trained horse that starts in a PTP race.
The spring steeplechase program starts with the Middleburg Spring Races April 22, continues with the Foxfield Races in Charlottesville a week later (April 29) and concludes with the Virginia Gold Cup Races at Great Meadow in The Plains on May 6. The fall schedule includes the Foxfield Races on October 1, the Middleburg Races on October 7 and the International Gold Cup Meet on October 21 which all precede the Montpelier fall finale.
