The Warrenton Hunt Point-To-Point Recap; 2nd Meet of the Spring
The Warrenton Hunt Point-to-Point took place on March 18th, at the historic Airlie Racecourse in Warrenton, VA. The card was made up of ten races, ranging from a mile and an eighth to three miles around the track. This meet is important to local fans of the sport who get to come out in the Northern Virginia area and see one of the first racing events of the year.
A highlight of the races this weekend was jockey Mell Boucher winning 3 of the 10 races! Her win in the final race was atop Dulini, a horse trained by Susan Cooney. Duliniwon the only race with a purse — a 1 1/8 miles flat for Virginia-Bred, Sired & Certified horses — which followed a win at Charlestown March 4 in a $13,000 claiming race which gave Cooney her 300th career triumph.
The spring PTP season continues at the Salem Course in Upperville March 25 (Piedmont Fox Hounds), the Ben Venue Farm in Ben Venue April 8 (Old Dominion Hounds), the Woodley Farm in Berryville April 16 (Blue Ridge Hunt), Morven Park in Leesburg April 23 (Loudoun Hunt) and Glenwood Park in Middleburg April 30 (Middleburg Hunt).
