Shenandoah Downs Closes Out Spring Harness Racing Season with Preakness Party This Weekend

Shenandoah Downs will present the Shenandoah Valley’s biggest Preakness party this Saturday, May 18 complete with ten harness races, betting on Maryland’s premier Triple Crown race, Black Eyed Susan cocktails, crabcakes, and live music with Virginia’s most popular Rolling Stones tribute band, Cherry Red!

Closing weekend of the 2024 harness season in Woodstock is May 18 & 19.

Harness racing will run from 2:05 – 5:15 PM and for the first time ever, simulcast wagering on the entire Preakness card at Baltimore’s Pimlico Racecourse will be available beginning at 10:30 AM up through the big race at 7:01 PM. The Preakness Day program itself features includes eight stakes races — in addition to the Preakness — starting with the Skipat Stakes in Race 4 followed by the G3 Chick Lang, G3 Gallorette, G3 Maryland Sprint Stakes, James Murphy, Sir Barton, Jim Mckay Turf Sprint and Dinner Party Stakes which will be held consecutively in Races 6 – 12. Fans can wager in advance that day and have up to six months to cash winning tickets at any Shenandoah Downs live race performance in 2024.

Fans will be invited onto the track to catch the Preakness simulcast up close.

Seafood vendor Crabby Maggies will be on site serving crabcakes, brown shrimp and fish tacos. Cherry Red will play tunes starting at 3 PM but will save its best and longest set for the time between the last harness race and the Preakness post parade.

The final day of racing is Sunday May 19 with a twelve- race card beginning at 1:05 PM. Concession specials include $1 hot dogs and $2 canned beer.
