Superstar Horse Foiled Again To Make Promotional Appearance At Shenandoah Downs

Superstar harness horse Foiled Again, who competed and won at Shenandoah Downs in Woodstock, Virginia last fall as part of a national Farewell Tour, will return to the Valley on Saturday September 14th for a promotional appearance that will help kick off the fourth pari-mutuel race season.

The Dragon Again gelding, now 15, ended his racing career on New Years Eve this past year. Foiled Again won 109 total races from 331 starts and amassed $7,635,588 making him the richest standardbred horse in history. Owned by the Ron Burke Racing Stable, his national Farewell Tour at 18 different tracks last year created so much interest and enthusiasm from fans that he won the prestigious Stan Bergstein/Proximity Award in 2018.

Foiled Again prevailed at Shenandoah Downs in September, 2018 to the delight of a packed house.

Foiled Again’s ’18 appearance at Shenandoah Downs filled the grandstand to capacity. Hundreds of fans enjoyed a meet and greet with the champ after he raced, where they were able to enjoy him up close and take pictures. On September 14th this year, he will lead a post parade on the track and appear at a meet and greet once again. There will also be a commemorative Foiled Again T-Shirt Giveaway that day themed after his win in Woodstock last September.

Pacers and trotters will return to the Shenandoah County Fairgrounds in two different times this year — in late August for four race days during the Shenandoah County Fair meet and again for a five week period from September 13th thru October 13th during the Shenandoah Downs pari-mutuel meet, where betting is available. Racing will take place during the latter season every Friday at 3:30 PM and Saturday at 2 PM.

The $300,000 (est.) Virginia Breeders’ Championships will close out the season Sunday October 13th. The non-betting event features eight championship races showcasing Virginia-bred two and three-year-old pacers and trotters of both sexes. Preliminary Breeders’ races will take place the Sunday prior, on October 6th.

The Shenandoah County Fairgrounds is located at I-81, Exit 283 halfway between Winchester and Harrisonburg. Season details are available at virginiahorseracing.com and shenandoahdowns.com.
