Come out to the Warrenton Horse Show Grounds on Sunday June 23rd for the Virginia Yearling Futurity. It’s a great way to start your Sunday — festivities begin at 9 AM.

$7,500 Virginia-Bred or Sired Yearling Colts and Geldings
$7,500 Virginia-Bred or Sired Yearling Fillies
$7,500 Virginia-Certified Yearling Colts, Geldings and Fillies
Grand Champion Yearling Class
Yearling Futurity Judge will be Cary Frommer, who has been involved in the Thoroughbred industry for more than 30 years. Growing up as the daughter of an Army Officer, Cary traveled the world before settling in Aiken and working for some of the top trainers in the country including Hall of Fame trainer Mack Miller.
In 1999 Cary began pin hooking 2 year olds and in 2009 Cary and her team set the record for the highest priced two year old at Timonium with the sale of the Tapit colt, Trappe Shot when he sold for $850,000. 2016 was a banner year, when she sold two MILLION DOLLAR two year olds, both by Uncle Mo.
The morning will start with breakfast at the tent for exhibitors, their staff, spectators and all of our judging contest participants. We will begin promptly at 9:00 A.M. with the $7,500 Virginia-bred/sired colts/geldings yearling class. The classes are only open to Thoroughbreds that have been registered as Virginia-Bred, Sired or Certified with the Virginia Thoroughbred Association. Yearlings will be judged on their suitability to become a racehorse and will be asked to stand up and walk. Prize money will be awarded as follows in the three divisions:
1st Place: $3,000
2nd Place: $1,500
3rd Place: $1,000
4th Place: $750
5th Place: $500
6th Place: $375
7th Place: $250
8th Place: $125
Our $200 judging contest will be held outside of the ring simultaneously during the first three classes. Spectators will learn from our industry expert, Cindy Curtis, on what to look for when judging a yearling racehorse prospect. The person who picks the finish order closest to judge Frommer in the first three classes will win $200 in cash. The judging contest has been immensely popular with the spectators at the show.
After the pinning of the three divisions, there will be a championship class. The top two VA-bred or sired colts, VA-bred or sired fillies and VA-certified yearlings will be asked back to compete for the championship.
Exhibitors and spectators are invited back to the tent after the championship class, where judge Frommer will comment on the winners in each division. She will also talk about how she prepares some of the best young horses in the country for the racetrack.
