Colonial Downs 2021 Thoroughbred Racing Season

Date: July 19, 2021
Get ready for a 21-day thoroughbred racing season this summer in New Kent that will extend over a seven- week period! Horses compete over the renowned Secretariat Turf Course — widest grass racing surface in the nation — and the 1 1/4 miles dirt oval which is second largest in the country next to Belmont’s 1 1/2 miles oval.
The 2021 thoroughbred season at Colonial Downs will run from July 19 – September 1.
The meet will begin July 19 and continue every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday through September 1 with a post time of 1:45 PM. Virginia Derby Day is slated for Tuesday August 31 with a big program featuring five stakes races on turf. The MATCH Series will make a stop in New Kent as well on Monday August 23. A four-pack of $100,000 open stakes will be contested that afternoon on dirt, which is great for fans that like to cheer their favorites on trackside!
The track is now in its third season under ownership of the Colonial Downs Group. The stable area will open for training on July 5 and will close on September 8.
