New Colonial Downs ownership group — Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI) — did not waste any time making a big impact on the upcoming 2023 thoroughbred racing season in New Kent.
A trio of major stakes races that had been held at now shuttered Arlington Racecourse for years will be headed to Colonial this summer and will all be held on the same day — Saturday August 12.
A pair of Grade I stakes — the Arlington Million and Beverly D — will be showcased that day in conjunction with the Grade 2 Secretariat Stakes! This has the makings of one of the biggest race days in Virginia horse racing history! Stay tuned for more details at colonialdowns.com but by all means, mark the date down on your summer calendar.
CDI is also introducing a more fan friendly racing schedule for 2023. The 9-week meet will be held from July 13 – September 9 with racing every Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 1:30 PM.
