Virginia Derby Night at Colonial Downs

Date: September 1, 2020

Make plans to watch and wager — and hopefully attend — the biggest event on Virginia’s annual horse racing calendar. The $200,000 Virginia Derby is a Grade 3 stakes race and features top three-year-old horses that compete 1 1/8 miles over Colonial Downs’ signature Secretariat Turf Course.

A stellar under card includes the $100,000 Virginia Oaks along with a trio of $60,000 turf stakes — the Kitten’s Joy, Rosie’s and Old Nelson Stakes. Also on the program is the $45,000 Old Dominion Overnight Handicap — a dirt race at 7 furlongs.

Post time is 5:30 PM. Stay tuned for more details on Covid-19 related restrictions that could be loosened and possibly allow spectators to attend the fall meet in New Kent.
