The second day of racing over the new Shenandoah County Fair track did not disappoint as the trotters made quick work of dissolving the old track record.
In the first heat Molly B Golly went to the lead and never really looked back. She set some honest fractions early for driver Alvin Lineweaver and was on cruise control most of the trip. She broke the track record of 2:02.4 set last year by third place finisher Sun Chimes in a time of 2:02.
In the second heat Molly B Golly had to deal with challengers early, but her cruise control speed gave her the advantage she needed to score. She broke her own record in that contest by stopping the clock at 2:00, which is the fastest ever trotting mile at the Shenandoah County Fair.
Intheblinkofaneye did not disappoint for trainer/driver Tara Hynes and put on a show for the large crowd in attendance. When the gate sprung open, he took off and never looked back on a field who was not able to keep pace. For Intheblinkofaneye, it is his 10th win of the season in 21 starts.
Another impressive performer on the day was John’s Dream who is owned by trainer/driver Chuck Perry. John’s Dream made a break early in the mile, but by the five-eighths pole had caught the pack. He went right around the early leaders and drew off to win easily.
Chuck Perry Jr. currently leads the driver standings with six wins over Lineweaver who has three, while Betsy Brown and Scott Woogen are third with a pair of victories each.
On the trainers’ side, Betsy Brown took the lead with three total victories for the meet, while trainers Gary Messenger and Eileen Lineweaver each have a pair of wins.
The track has been playing fantastic all week and race secretary Mike Wandishan said “The track has exceeded all of our expectations.”
