Shenandoah Downs Set for 12-Race Card Saturday & 13-Race Card Sunday in Woodstock

Shenandoah Downs enters weekend number three of its seven-week spring stand in Woodstock with respective 12 and 13-race cards this Saturday April 20 and Sunday April 21. First post both days is 1:05 PM.

Saturday’s card features a trio of U.S. Harness Drivers Club divisions in races 2, 5 and 10 in addition to a four-pack of $6,000 prep races -– two paces and two trots — in Shenandoah’s Mountain Racing Series. The Alleghany Trot and Blue Ridge Pace are for horses that have participated in the Virginia Harness Horse Association’s lucrative Certified Residency program. Male and female divisions in each will be contested Saturday. The groupings will come back April 27 where purses increase to $25,000 in each division.

Highlighting last week’s action was driver William Carter collecting driving wins number 98, 99 and 100 of his young career on Saturday, the last coming in the day’s finale aboard Elwood Tignor and Deborah Mulligan’s Roadgracemissellie who was sent off at 12-1 odds and paid $27.60. Carter’s previous two wins that day came aboard Dante & Evgeniya Scattolini’s Campbellini ($21.20) and Howard Kaufman & Joshua Kaufman’s Speaking Of Coffee ($10.20).

Carter recorded his first ever win at the Shenandoah County Fair in September, 2021 and a year later, earned his second ever pari-mutuel win at Shenandoah Downs.
