The last day of fall steeplechase racing in Virginia takes place at Montpelier, the lifelong residence of James Madison, the fourth President of the United States.
The Montpelier races have been a tradition since 1929 and are held every first Saturday in November. The event boasts various activities such as Jack Russell terrier dog races, Stick Horse Racing for children, a fancy hat contest, a sidesaddle exhibition, and a vintage Packard car parade.
Gates open at 9 a.m., terrier dog races begin at 10:15 a.m., followed by the first horse race at 12:30 p.m. The final race starts around 4:05 p.m.
